San Carlos to Parque National Leoncito - March 4

We had planned to ride north on Ruta 40, straight through Mendoza City and San Juan to San Jose de Jachal, but Dario gave us some insights on a more interesting and scenic route - first riding through the Bodegas between Campo Los Andes and Tupungato and then climbing into the Andes for a descent into the village of Las Vegas and on to Potrerillo.
The road into Las Vegas.

The ride was beautiful as Dario had promised - dry grasslands surrounded by mountains on all sides, hilit by the descent into Las Vegas on a twisitng narrow gravel and dirt road shared by a herd of semi-wild horses.
We followed local road signs for Ruta 7 Norte only to find the road flooded over, but eventually found an alternative access and rode the highway to Uspallata where we provisioned for a night of camping in the desert outside of Parque National Leoncito.
Los Andes from the Incan Road outside P.N. Leoncito.
Setting up camp for the night.
